The “Día de la Canción Criolla” has been celebrated since 1944. It was originated with the intention of recovering, highlighting and spreading the traditional customs of Lima from that time. Composers and performers gather to sing and play those melodies with great emotion through the sound of their traditional instruments such as guitars and sound boxes (cajón peruano). The festival stimulates the Creole authenticity, tradition and sense of humour that lives in the city’s inhabitants.
